Sophisticated & Stylish New York Wedding In Suzanne Neville Gown
❤️ The TWC Effect – Our brides, their way ❤️
Lucy and Nav flew out to the big apple to not only get married but revisit their engagement spot, what a treat! The loved up pair enjoyed a beautiful day full of family and fun, with gorgeous views and NY glamour thrown in too…
How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend at a night-club in Birmingham. At the time, we were both seeing other people but a few years later we started working together, the rest is one big love story.
Was it love at first sight?
I would say it was love at second or third sight. We both had other partners so don’t think we looked at each-other that way. I definitely appreciated his warmth and kindness when I first met him.
Who proposed and how? Lovely details, please!
September 2018. I was visiting my best friend out in New York and we decided to have a really swanky night out on one of the evenings; gorgeous bars, amazing food, hair done, make up done and looking the part.
Little did I know that my best friend and Nav had been plotting for him to fly out, surprise me and propose on the roof of The Standard (one of my favourite bars in NYC for the view). Our favourite place in the world is NYC so it meant so much that the proposal was there too.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? How did it come about?
Classic, elegant and black tie. Super simple, timeless and romantic.
Location and how you found it?
We chose The PUBLIC Hotel in Manhattan in NYC as our destination venue. We got married on the 17th floor terrace with the empire state building in the background. We chose it as we fell in love with their event space and NYC as a destination was fitting due to it being our favourite place in the world and the city Nav proposed in.
How did you find The Wedding Club? Tell us about that moment when you found and chose your dress – how did it make you feel when you put it on for the first time?
I heard about The Wedding Club as my best friend had actually got her dress from there too. Funny story but, because of the lock-down I actually ended up purchasing two dresses from the wedding club because I’d changed my mind (and my body had changed through lockdown because of my new found love for the gym).
When I found THE dress which I wore to the wedding, it just felt right; I felt incredibly content and a little bit sexy. It’s cliché but when you know, you know.
Which designer did you wear?
Suzanne Neville. Absolutely obsessed with all Suzanne Nevilles pieces; modern, elegant and with the corset of dreams. I felt as though she made it especially for me.
Where is the suit from? Why was it the perfect fit?
My husband only ever shops in one place: Reiss.
Did you have speeches? Who performed them?
Father of the bride, The groom and the two best men. Each adding something a little different and each adding their own sentimental touches. My Mum had written a poem too which she recited during the ceremony – this was really special.
Did you have a first dance? What song did you choose and why? How was the performance?
We did have a first dance. ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ by Frank Sinatra performed how it is in the film, my best friend’s wedding. Nav dances a little bit like Chandler from friends so it was a slow, side to side kind of dance. This being said, it was perfect.
How was the party?
The never-ending ginger margaritas and champagne definitely contributed to it being a proper party (ending up at the venue’s club until 4am). We had a 6-piece jazz/soul band followed by a DJ who mixed it up and threw in some Punjabi music which was a real crowd pleaser with Navs dad teaching everyone some new moves! We swapped a wedding cake for pizza and didn’t want the night to end!
Wedding planning advice for brides to be?
If you’re getting married abroad, I’d really recommend a wedding planner; we chose to hire a company within the month lead up to assist with floor plans, vendor liaison, on the day planning, final balance etc. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them, they were exceptional.
One of my best bits of advice would be; get ready an hour earlier, go and have those photos with your Mum, immediate family and bridal party. It’ll cut some photo time out of the main day enabling you to spend time with your guests AND mean you are fully ready and relaxed prior to walking down the aisle. It really helped me!
One moment you’ll never forget:
There was a moment just as we were signing our papers during the ceremony, our gospel choir in the background singing ‘Your Love Is My Love’ and my parents, Navs parents, Nav and I were around the table.
My father-in-law looked at me and said (whilst happy emotional) ‘welcome to the family’ and gave me the biggest smile and the warmest hug. It sort of got us all a bit emotional but that moment was perfect. Two families into one is a really special thing.
