Ethereal Yorkshire Eco-Wedding In Atelier Pronovias Gown

❤️ The TWC Effect – Our brides, their way ❤️

Kate & Paul were strangers on a train and now they are living the rom com life! This loved up duo tied the knot and did their bit to save the planet too with their super cool eco-friendly wedding, read on for all the dreamy details…

How did you guys meet?

We met on Sunday 11th December 2016, on a train heading to Southampton from Waterloo, London.

Both with our friends heading to Southampton v Middlesbrough to watch the mighty BORO…. sadly we lost 1-0….

Since that day, we have shared our lives watching boro, drinking copious amounts of craft beer and wine, attending music festivals, travelling the world, enjoying the outdoors and walking Max our cheeky Beagle!

Was it love at first sight?

Haha! Awww maybe! Maybe it was without either of us realising. But I think for both of us we knew by the end of our first year of dating that we were the one for each other.

Who proposed and how? Lovely details, please!

Paul popped the question on Wednesday 12th August 2020 on Saltburn beach at sunset. There wasn’t actually a sunset haha! But it was at that time of day, but the lovely north east on a summer evening did give us a super foggy evening on the beach haha! But the proposal was perfect. We had a lovely evening stroll as we do when visiting home, and caught by surprise Paul got down on one knee.

Did you have a theme for your wedding? How did it come about?

We both love music festivals, in particular Glastonbury. We had a good Pinterest and google search of elements we liked from different festival weddings to create our own.

We wanted to get married outside but have the rustic effect of a barn. We also wanted an eco-friendly wedding. No plastic and no food waste. We actually succeeded at this. We had no food waste from our day caterers MK Catering who are based in Newcastle. They served canapés, main course and a fruit platter. Along with the fruit platter the guests had cupcakes who were made by Natalie from Make by Natalie.

Natalie also made our wedding cake (which we cut for a photo on the day and served to guests staying on site the following day), and our invites and the stamp we used to create our seeded paper festival wristbands. In the evening we had the guests pre order their meal which was the BORO PARMO! Served by the amazing Parmogeddon food truck!

Location and how you found it?

Thief hall, Thornton-Le-Moor, North Yorkshire. My bridesmaid Natalie had been to one of the first weddings there around 8/9 years ago and had messaged me to say she thought it would be worth a visit. Paul and I only walked up the entrance ramp to the venue before even meeting the owner Jessica and said “this is it”. We just knew. Thief hall is just a magical blank canvas venue with an insane North Yorkshire dales backdrop. They let you bring your dream view to life.

We cannot put into words how incredibly helpful and supportive Jessica and Katy were from the moment we booked Thief Hall. They are there 24/7 to answer any questions and help in any way.

If you had to translate Thief Hall into other words it would have to be “Wedding Magic” and the staff as the “Wedding Fairies”. The little surprise touches they put in across your wedding weekend is just above and beyond. We will be forever thankful xx

How did you find The Wedding Club? Tell us about that moment when you found and chose your dress – how did it make you feel when you put it on for the first time?

I came across the wedding club on Instagram. I was just flicking through #bohowedding when I came across a few dresses on your Instagram page. I started following and over the next few months liking certain photos until one dress in particular caught my eye on your stories. I messaged to ask the size and it was my size. I originally didn’t want to try dresses on in London where I live as I wanted to wait to try them on with my mam back up north when visiting.

My mam talked me into going and I headed down one Saturday morning in May 2021 with my bridesmaid Natalie and friend Tiana. Upon arrival at the South Kensington store I started laughing to myself as I had passed this building 100’s of times while at work (nanny) and had never noticed it. It was like it was meant to be already.

Once in the store the girl who was working made me feel so at ease. I’m a size 12-14, and honestly I hadn’t even tried the dress on and she had already made me feel amazing. Next it was time to try on the dress! As soon as I walked out in it the girls gasped and filled up as did my mam on FaceTime. The dress, even though it was big, felt light, elegant and soft. It was comfortable and I was just utterly in love with it. It totally wasn’t boho but it 100% fitted the theme and setting of the wedding in its own way. It was the one!

Which designer did you wear?

My dress was Pronovias as was my veil that I also bought from yourselves.

Where is the suit from? Why was it the perfect fit?

Paul and his groomsmen wore Peter Posh suits from Georgina at Perfect Partners Boutique in Middlesbrough. Georgina had also supplied the suits to my sisters weddings 20+years ago. Her experience in this field is second to none. So it was a no brainer to use Georgina.

Did you have speeches? Who performed them?

Yes we had four speeches;

Father of the bride – Andrew Grace

Father of the groom – Stephen Rymer

Groom – Paul Rymer

Best man – Mathew Harris

They all did an absolute fabulous job!

Lots of laughter and happy memories!

Did you have a first dance? What song did you choose and why? How was the performance?

We had two dances, we had a father daughter dance and a first dance, both performed by our band Buffalo Four. Kate’s dad performed with Matty from Buffalo Four years ago as a drummer under a different band name. So it’s very much a family affair when they play.

Father Daughter Dance: Thin Lizzy – My Sarah

First Dance – Stereophonics – Indian Summer.

My Sarah is one of my dad’s favourite ballads and my first name is Sahra Kate so it was quite fitting for us.

We chose Indian Summer by the Stereophonics as we are both big fans of the band and the lyrics are amusing to us as we met on a train drinking haha!

How was the party?

The party was amazing from beginning to end! Started with Anita Aslin playing the harp for the first hour as guests arrived and had a drink. Then Anita played as I walked down the aisle, signing the register and the exit/confetti song.

Entrance: Sigur Ros- Hoppipolla

Signing of register: Beatles- Here comes the sun

Exit/Confetti: Tom Odell- Grow old with me

We then had Finn Forster, who is an up and coming singer songwriter from Middlesbrough play in between the ceremony and the reception while we had photos taken and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine and views. Finn played a mixture of his own and covers. He’s absolutely brilliant! Just him and his guitar!

Lastly in the music department we had 5 piece indie/rock cover band Buffalo Four. They played a 45 min set, then a 90min set. They had the dance floor packed and the atmosphere was amazing!

In between Buffalo Fours two sets we had everyone step outside to an old friend of Kate’s, Tom Syron from Tricky Syron. Tom and his wife Kathryn performed a fire eating routine. This was one of their first events to perform at and they did a fabulous job!

Wedding planning advice for brides to be?

Enjoy the process! Don’t be shy about being over organised. I love a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. Then on the day the staff at Thief Hall: Jessica, Katy & Kate had all the information to run it smoothly without Paul and I having to ask a single question all day. We were so relaxed and could just enjoy the day and soak up all the moments.

One moment you’ll never forget:

Kate: all my bridesmaids had walked down the aisle and for the first time that morning nerves were starting to build. As I heard the cue in the music for myself and my dad to walk, I looked ahead and saw Paul. At that moment I automatically felt calm, collected and safe. He was the one.

Paul: I’ll never ever forget the moment our ceremony started. Being stood at the archway about to get married with my best man by my side supporting me through the biggest moment in my life. Surrounded by our family and friends. As soon as I saw Kate at the top of the Isle after watching our Bridesmaids and Groomsmen lead the way before her, as soon as I saw Kate I began to cry. I’d waited for this moment for so long and it was finally here. Kate looked absolutely beautiful like I knew she would. I now get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.
