Fabulous & Fun Fyffe Wedding In Marchesa Notte Gown
❤️ The TWC Effect – Our brides, their way ❤️
Lauren and Blair’s big day was a timeless, elegant affair full of family and fun! The pair first met as teenagers and were brought back together years later, look at them now!
How did you meet?
We first met back when we were very young at the age of 17, outside an infamous nightclub on Halloween. Lauren was dressed as a crayon and Blair was at the age where he was too cool to dress up.
We were together for a year and then went their separate ways and both went to university to study – Lauren went to study Accounting and Finance at the University of Glasgow where I met her two bridesmaids and best friends Nicole and Gillian. Blair went to study Sport at the University of Strathclyde.
We bumped into each other again when we were in our early 20’s; again on Halloween, in a nightclub in Dunfermline. Blair was dressed as an Oompa Loompa and Lauren was dressed as a 1920’s Flapper Girl. We can’t remember much from that but all they know is that Blair didn’t find Lauren and Lauren didn’t find Blair. We found each other, and since that day, we have been together!
Was it love at first sight?
Blair’s first impression of Lauren was that she was pretty weird but also kind of funny and cute. There was something about her that was so intriguing and he wanted to find out more.
Lauren’s first impression of Blair – she definitely thought he was super cool and definitely fancied himself a bit. Lauren thought, under all that there is definitely a more vulnerable side, and she is so glad she took the time to get to know him.
Who proposed and how? Lovely details, please!
In terms of our engagement, well each of them have their own perspective on this, so we’ll begin with Blair…He said he tried twice to ask Brian’s permission but on both occasions something else came up and he had to abort the mission. On the third time, Blair knew Lauren and her mum were away so he just turned up at the house to ask and again, Brian wasn’t home yet. Blair considered giving up but is glad he didn’t, and Brian couldn’t say yes quickly enough!
Blair planned everything with the staff at Gleneagles who were very helpful. They initially went for lunch and Blair couldn’t believe the price of burger/club sandwich and beer/gin was £80! Not a great start!
For Lauren, she said it happened like this…. She said they arrived at Gleneagles quite early and went for lunch and Blair suggested going for a walk around the grounds, however it was raining, so Lauren was very much against going for a walk in the rain. They decided to go for lunch and have some drinks at the bar and Lauren suggested to Blair to check if the room was ready early and to go see if they could check in early.
Blair then went to “check” if the room was ready at Lauren’s request while she was sitting with her G&T and he came back to say it wasn’t, but they were going to arrange a private car to take them around the grounds…. Lauren thought it was a bit weird and extravagant but thought it might just be the way it went!
Blair told me that they got out of the car to look at the views at one stop and what he said is an absolute blur because he was nervous and emotional, but the main thing was, Lauren said yes.
Family means a lot to them both, so they Facetimed their family and from a windy fairway to tell their parents.
Their dog-nephew Freddie had a congratulations sign around his collar which was so adorable.
Little did Lauren and Blair know that the staff had gone a step further, as they were interrupted whilst getting ready for dinner by a request to go downstairs for a drink on the house from Gleneagles. When they went down, all of their family were sitting there, and this meant the world to them.
When I asked Lauren and Blair to tell me why they want to get married and what it means to them, they said they both strongly admire their parents and appreciate the love they put into their relationships with each other, but also the love they have for their children. They are fantastic role models, and they respect and love them all so much.
Did you have a theme for your wedding? How did it come about?
I always envisioned a classic elegant style for our wedding. I wanted to focus on timeless colours and themes while incorporating our own style and personality throughout. Our theme was white and gold and went slightly untraditional with white bridesmaid dresses and they just looked so beautiful and elegant.
Location and how you found it?
We got married at Balbirnie House in Fife, Scotland. I am a very organised list type of person, so before we went to look at venues we wrote down a list of our must haves and focused on it from there. This was so helpful when looking at different venues as it really reminded us of the core things we wanted in a wedding venue when looking. It is so easy to get carried away with all the beautiful venues!
How did you find The Wedding Club? Tell us about that moment when you found and chose your dress – how did it make you feel when you put it on for the first time?
When looking at dresses, I initially focused on designers and then looked at what store stocked those designers. I think this sounds crazy to someone who isn’t a bride to be, however looking at designers they really all do have different styles and it is a good way to narrow it down.
I was so obsessed with the Mila Nova dresses that TWC stocked so my mum and I flew down to London to spend a day looking at wedding dresses. I tried on a few Mila Nova dresses and they just didn’t feel quite right. As we were about to leave, there was one dress which was sticking out on the rail and I thought it was beautiful, however not my style at all (I dreamed of a tight fitting wedding dress with long sleeves since before I got engaged!) This dress was strapless with a tulle skirt – so complete opposite! I tried it on and when I looked in the mirror I just knew this was my dress. I was crying, my mum was crying – it was so perfect!
Which designer did you wear?
Marchesa Notte
Where is the suit from? Why was it the perfect fit?
Blair wore a Hugo Boss Tuxedo and it was perfect!
Did you have speeches? Who performed them?
My dad (FOTB), Blair and his two best men (Neill Clark and Shaun Philp). They were all amazing .
Did you have a first dance? What song did you choose and why? How was the performance?
First dance was Stereophonics, I wanna get lost with you.
We both have very different tastes in music, however we have one band in common – The Stereophonics. So we both knew our first dance had to be a song by them. We went to a Kelly Jones solo concert and he played this song and we both looked at each other and said this is going to be our first dance song!
How was the party?
The party was incredible. I don’t think there wasn’t ever a full dance floor. We danced all night and our band were absolutely incredible. They had everyone up on the dance floor and kept everyone so entertained, they got my husband up to sing Wonderwall by Oasis and it was hilarious and such good fun! We also had a close up magician who performed tricks to our guests throughout the night, it was such a hit with the guests.
Wedding planning advice for brides to be?
Everyone says that it is the best day of your life and I always thought, really?! But it seriously was the best day of our lives, we loved every single minute of it and can’t believe it is all over! We were so organised and I think that really helped on the day, as all the hard work had been done and it was just time to enjoy it and take it all in.
The most important things that your guests love is having good entertainment and the best food and drink! This is where I would put most of your budget over things like signage and decor as on the day all you really notice is your husband, friends and family having the best day of their lives!
One moment you’ll never forget:
Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing my husband at the end of it! It was something I was really nervous about however, walking into that room and being surrounded by everyone who I love was truly magical!
